Our latest training day was on Thursday 10th October 2024, organized by our training co-ordinator Nick Simpson. There were 5 pupils along with 5 tutors and one safety observer, most were on their 2nd or 3rd training sessions apart from Lynn Holmes who was having her first lesson.
On Lathe 1 was Allan Reedie being tutored by Alec Mutch, on Lathe 2, was Tom Todd being tutored by Nick Simpson, on Lathe 3, was Lynn Holmes being tutored by David Ross, on Lathe 4 was Inga Ballantyne being tutored by David Hobson and on Lathe 5 was Judy MacDonald being tutored by John Ruickbie. Our safety observer was Keith Hodgson.
Here are a few pictures I took during the session.
On Lathe 1 was Allan Reedie working with me as his tutor, this was Allan’s 2nd session and was still on bowl work but making progress.
On Lathe 2 was Tom Todd with Nick Simpson as his tutor, Nick started the session by showing Tom how the tools were sharpened, he then went on to work on a bowl, again making progress.
On Lathe 3 was Lynn Holmes with her tutor David Ross, this was her first session and they were making a spurtle working between centres by spindle turning, she was pleased with the outcome for her first venture into woodturning.
On Lathe 4 was Inga Ballantyne with David Hobson as her tutor, this was Inga’s 3rd session and David had her making a weed pot that she had to do from start to finish including sanding sealing and polishing, the finished item was well received.
On Lathe 5 was Judy MacDonald with John Ruickbie as her tutor, John had Judy working on various items that required spindle turning, (held between centres) and using the bevel of the tools to achieve good clean cuts.
That concluded our training session for this week, our next training session will be on the 24th October.
