We had another training day on Thursday 7th November 2024, organised by Nick Simpson, there were 5 pupils with 5 turners doing various stages of woodturning, also present was our safety observer for this tutorial Mark Sutton and Susan Drew who kindly agreed to take a few pictures of the proceedings.
Here are those pictures along with a little text.
On Lathe 1 was Paul Troxler being tutored by myself (Alec Mutch) this was Paul’s 4th tutorial, I took him on to do Coves and Beads as part of his Spindle Training. He would now be asked to practice in his own time having completed 4 lessons.
On Lathe 2 was Jane Rutherford being tutored by Nick Simpson, Jane was making good progress with her Bowl Turning, here she can be seen working on a small Bowl.
On Lathe 3 was Lynn Holmes being tutored by David Ross, here she can be seen working a small bowl as part of her Bowl Training that David was guiding her through.
On Lathe 4 was Alan Reedie being tutored by David Hobson, here David had Alan completing a shallow Bowl that Alan had started at a previous meeting.
On Lathe 5 was Tom Todd being tutored by John Ruickbie, John had Tom working on Coves and Beads as part of his Spindle Turning.
All the pupils had made good progress by the end of the session, some were to be left to their own devices now, whilst others would go on to receive more training, all the pupils were also pleased with their progress.
The next training session will be on the 21st November, Nick will notify all those concerned, both pupils and trainers.
