Our meeting this week on Thursday 3rd March 2022 is going to be a demonstration by Nick Simpson, Nick is going to show you how to make a tricylinder from a piece of wood. For those who are unfamiliar with the the term Tricylinder, I have put a couple of pictures up for you to see. These Tricylinders are in effect where a series of pipes would have intersected were they made of metal, Nick’s Tricylinder is made from wood and offers an excellent opportunity to further your woodturning skills, it’s also very good at making you think about how you are going to actually be able to make this item, bear in mind it’s being made from one piece of wood.

Report on our meeting 17-02-2022, A demonstration by John Ruickbie.

Our meeting this week on Thursday 17th February 2022 was a demonstration by John Ruickbie, John was to make a bowl from a piece of Elm but not the usual bowl, he was going to leave the top of his bowl square, in addition to being square, John was to make some decorative penetrations on the lip of his bowl at each of the 4 corners of the bowl. This would mean he required more than just the lathe to make this bowl, a Scroll saw would also be used. John was to demonstrate how the penetrations were made, making use of firstly a template to mark out the penetrations, then drilling a small hole to accommodate the saw blade, then actually using the Scroll saw to cut the penetrations.

Our meeting this week 17-02-2022, A demonstration by John Ruickbie.

Our meeting this week, Thursday 17th February 2022 is a demonstration by John Ruickbie. John is going to be making a square bowl on the lathe, he will also do some decorative work on the bowl with the use of a fret saw. John had demonstrated something similar a few years ago but as the membership keeps changing John felt it was time to do it again for the benefit of the many new members we have in the club.

Report on our AGM meeting on 03-02-2022 and our Committee meeting on 05-02-2022.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on the 3rd February 2022, this meeting would determine who would be Chairperson and who would be on the Committee for the period from February 2022 until February 2023. In addition to electing the Chairperson and the Committee there were some changes made to the Club’s Constitution this was also discussed and accepted by the membership present and to take immediate effect.

Report on our meeting 20-01-2022, a demonstration by Alec Mutch.

Our club meeting on Thursday 20th January 2022 was a demonstration by myself (Alec Mutch) on toy or puzzle making. I was to make a couple of items, the first being a child’s spinning top, the second being a little puzzle item. Both these items had been demonstrated at our club in the past but with new members joining every year I felt it was time to repeat some of the items that had been demonstrated before.

Our meeting this week Thursday 20th January 2022 is going to be a demonstration by Alec Mutch , wooden toys & puzzles are the themes for the meeting. We have done toys and puzzles before but there are so many different things that can be made using a lathe in the toy and puzzle line. Some of the toys might be better named as models, it all depends on the degree of accuracy that is put into an item.

Report on our meeting 06-01-2022. Demonstration by Douglas Stewart.

Our meeting on Thursday 6th January 2022 was a demonstration by Douglas Stewart, Douglas was to make some pieces of wooden jewellery, the range of items that can be made from wood using a lathe is practically endless. Douglas started the meeting by showing a variety of different wooden jewellery pieces to the watching crowd before then deciding upon the items he was going to make, in this instance he chose a scarf clasp and pin and a bangle.

Report on our meeting 23-12-2021, Bumper raffle draw.

Our Meeting on the 23rd December 2021 was our annual Christmas raffle draw, we had a total of 75 prizes to be drawn, 31 of which were donated by the membership, the rest were purchased by Jim Kelman from club funds supplied by our treasurer Cliff Sim. The sale of the Christmas Raffle tickets started back at the end of September and we continued to sell tickets at every meeting up to and including the 23rd of December, it was hugely successful netting our club a total of £393.50 towards our club funds. A huge thank you goes out to all those who donated prizes and those who purchased the raffle tickets.
