Our meeting this week Thursday 20th January 2022 is going to be a demonstration by Alec Mutch , wooden toys & puzzles are the themes for the meeting. We have done toys and puzzles before but there are so many different things that can be made using a lathe in the toy and puzzle line. Some of the toys might be better named as models, it all depends on the degree of accuracy that is put into an item.
Our meeting on Thursday 6th January 2022 was a demonstration by Douglas Stewart, Douglas was to make some pieces of wooden jewellery, the range of items that can be made from wood using a lathe is practically endless. Douglas started the meeting by showing a variety of different wooden jewellery pieces to the watching crowd before then deciding upon the items he was going to make, in this instance he chose a scarf clasp and pin and a bangle.

Our Meeting on the 23rd December 2021 was our annual Christmas raffle draw, we had a total of 75 prizes to be drawn, 31 of which were donated by the membership, the rest were purchased by Jim Kelman from club funds supplied by our treasurer Cliff Sim. The sale of the Christmas Raffle tickets started back at the end of September and we continued to sell tickets at every meeting up to and including the 23rd of December, it was hugely successful netting our club a total of £393.50 towards our club funds. A huge thank you goes out to all those who donated prizes and those who purchased the raffle tickets.
Our meeting this week on Thursday 23rd December 2021 is our annual Christmas Raffle draw, there will be no turning at this meeting, it will be just the raffle draw, prior to the draw I will be making a short summary of what has happened over the last few months and also outlining what’s likely to happen over the next few months, all of which will be subject to change as we are still in the middle of the pandemic and the government may change things with little or no warning, so to keep up to date with what’s happening do regular checks on this page or our facebook page, if we get any more information from the government it will be posted on both platforms and Geoff may send everyone an email of any changes.
Our meeting on Thursday 9th December 2021 was a demonstration by Andy Walters, Andy is the proprietor of Black Isle Woodturning and is self employed in this business. He agreed to do a demonstration for our club by making a Candle Lantern, this involved making a top and a bottom out of wood that were turned and a paper centre piece perforated to allow the light to shine through, he used an electronic candle for lighting the lantern.

It came to my attention recently that Ronnie Chisholm (one of our club members) had died. Ronnie had died very suddenly but peacefully on the 27th July 2021 at home, Lovat Road Inverness.
I spoke with his widow Gwynneth this week who informed me that Ronnie very much enjoyed his visits to our club, and that he would be very pleased to know that it continues to flourish. Gwynneth contacted me through our web site and asked if our club would be interested in some of Ronnie’s woodturning magazines and books, she also mentioned there were some wood blanks that she knew Ronnie would be pleased to know were being put to good use, it was during this conversation that I learned of Ronnie’s death.
In addition to being a member of our club Ronnie was also a member of the Inverness Mens Shed, it was at the Men’s Shed in the spring of this year that I along with Errol Levings last saw and spoke to Ronnie, It came as quite a shock to both of us to know he had died so suddenly.
Our club sends you Gwynneth and your family our deepest sympathy for your loss, Ronnie will be sadly missed by all our club members.
