Before we get into the details of this meeting I would like to invite those of you who would be interested in taking up woodturning as a hobby to contact us and arrange for a free visit to see exactly what the club is all about. We are on the lookout for a few new members to join the club, you can be male or female, aged over 12 years with an interest in making things on a lathe, having a lathe at this point is not a requirement. Our meeting on Thursday 18th January 2024 has been organized by Nick Simpson, Nick’s theme for the meeting is for all 5 lathes to be manned and making various styles of wooden Trinket Boxes.
I’m sure we will see a few different approaches on how to make these boxes, Nick has also suggested the boxes could be decorated or made from various different woods, laminated or embellished in some way.

Our meeting on Thursday 4th January 2024 was organized by Geoff Potter, Geoff’s theme for the evening was making bowls and platters. Geoff had arranged for 4 turners plus himself to man all the club lathes, however one of the turners was a no show so the meeting went ahead with 4 turners.

Our last meeting of the year on the 14th December 2023 was a triple purpose meeting, hosting both the Annual Christmas Competition and our traditional bumper raffle draw. It was also at this meeting that the winners of the Shield Competitions held throughout the year was to be announced.

Our meeting on Thursday 7th December 2023 was organized by Alan Smith, Alan’s theme for the meeting was using green wood (I.E. un-seasoned wood ). He had arranged for all 5 of the club lathes to be in use, with 4 club members plus himself doing the demonstrating.
