Report on our latest training evening.

Our latest training evening was on Thursday 24th October 2024.

The programme was arranged by Nick Simpson our training organizer, all 5 lathes were in use with 5 pupils along with 5 tutors, Nick on this occasion was to be our safety observer. The session went very well with all the pupils making headway in their turnings, we did have a couple of very small reminders in regards to safety, something that is taken very seriously at the club, it just gave us a reminder not to be complacent.

Report on our EGM (Extra General Meeting) 17-10-2024.

Our latest meeting held on the 17th October 2024 was an EGM (Extra General Meeting). It was called by the club Committee to discuss and decide upon our club becoming a charity. Some weeks earlier our secretary Geoff Potter put in a request to the organizing body to become a SCIO, this was approved and we were given a charity number of SC053651. This was all subject to the members accepting the change in our status.

Another of our training days, 10-10-2024.

Our latest training day was on Thursday 10th October 2024, organized by our training co-ordinator Nick Simpson. There were 5 pupils along with 5 tutors and one safety observer, most were on their 2nd or 3rd training sessions apart from Lynn Holmes who was having her first lesson.

Our next meeting, 03-10-2024 organized by Nick Simpson and Dave Line.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 3rd October 2024 and it’s our last of our shield Competitions for this year. This competition is all about Rocking Bowls in all 3 categories, the Novice and the Intermediate categories have to make a single Rocking Bowl, the Open category have to make a matching pair of Rocking Bowls, they can be any size as long as they have a rounded base.

Our latest Training day was on Thursday 26th September 2024, it was organized by our Training co-ordinator Nick Simpson who was also part of the Training team.

Our next meeting, 19-09-2024. Presentation by Mark Sutton.

Start time 6.45pm.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 19th September , it’s a solo presentation by Mark Sutton organized by Alan Geddes. Alan informed me that Mark’s presentation will have a Christmas theme although we have no further information on exactly what that might be.

Report on our meeting 05-09-2024 organized by Barry Cumming.

Our meeting on Thursday 5th September was organized by Barry Cumming, Barry’s theme for the meeting was making Captive Rings on our turnings. These are usually found on turnings that are between centres, things like Babies Rattles, Goblets , Wooden Mushrooms and various other turnings.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 5th September 2024, it has been organized by Barry Cumming and Barry’s theme for this meeting is making Captive Rings. In addition to himself he will have at least 2 more turners working the lathes who will also be demonstrating the art of making captive rings.

New members teaching programme 2024.

As a result of our Open Day we have a lot of new members who have joined our club, this has resulted in our Training arranger Nick Simpson starting a new programme of training to accommodate some of the new members who require some training.

Report on our meeting 22-08-2024 organized by Alec Mutch.

Our meeting on Thursday evening 22nd August 2024 was organized by Alec Mutch, this was a solo demonstration by myself on the theme of Off Centre or Multi Centre turning. As some of the equipment required to do this type of turning was not something that all turners would have as part of their kit I decided to do this demonstration on my own.
