Our meeting on Thursday 20th July 2023 was organized by Geoff Potter, Geoff’s theme for the evening was to make something that included some natural elements in the turning, it could be anything, a vase, a bowl or anything else, the turners just had to leave some Natural Elements in the final turning.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 20th July 2023, it has been organized by Geoff Potter and Geoff’s theme for the meeting is working with Natural Edges. Natural Edges covers a whole host of different options, it could be leaving the bark on in certain places on a Bowl or on a spindle turned item such as a Candlestick or a Mushroom, it could be using a Burr and leaving some of the spikey profile uppermost, you could use a “Y” piece of wood to create an interesting shape or even turn a piece of wood in end grain, again creating a very different shape. Geoff will have all 5 lathes in use.

Our meeting on Thursday 6th July 2023 was organized by Alan Smith, Alan had arranged for 3 turners plus himself to do a demonstration on making Shallow Bowls or Plates.
However we had a couple of last minute cancellations from the turners scheduled to do the demonstrations, this left us very short of demonstrators with Alan and only one other turner Susan Drew, who arrived prepared to do their demonstrations.

Our meeting on Thursday 22nd June 2023 was a solo demonstration by John Ruickbie, John’s subject for the demonstration was to show the members an example of Open Segmented Turning and to go on to demonstrate how it was made. Due to the complexity of this type of turning John had to do a lot of the preparatory work at home and explain the procedure and the equipment required to make this type of turning.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 22nd June 2024 it has an earlier start time of 6.30pm, this is to allow us to put forward some Health & Safety advice on the safe use of Fire Extinguishers, Joe Webster will do a short summary on using a Fire Extinguisher, which and when to use etc. this short presentation should last no more than 15 minutes but will give you some vital information on the use of a Fire Extinguisher.
Normal meeting will start at approximately 6.50pm.

It was well supported as usual although the turnout of our members was a little light, possibly down to the very nice weather we are having at the time.

Our 2nd Shield Competition of the year was on Thursday 25th May 2023. The subject matter for this Competition was to make something using an offset or multi axis mounting point or points, all 3 categories Novice, Intermediate and Experienced had the same brief and the rest was left for you to decide.

Our meeting on Thursday 25th May 2023 is our 2nd competition of the year, the subject matter is to turn something with a Multi Axis centre point. This criteria is the same for all 3 categories but you will be judged only in the category you are listed as having. It can be anything made using more than one centre, the use of specialized equipment can be adopted or home made jigs made and used, you may use between centres or use a faceplate or a combination of both, but most of all we need more of you to enter than was present at the last competition.
