Start time,6.45pm
Our meeting this week on Thursday 11th MAY 2023 has been organized by David Hobson, David’s original programme for this meeting was to have a visiting professional wood turner from Elgin by the name of Gary Lowe to do a presentation, however at very short notice Gary Had to cancel leaving David with the dilemma of having to find a replacement programme for this meeting and at very short notice.
It was then that we remembered that a visitors request had been made by a turner who lived in Australia but was born in Scotland, his name is Jim Cameron. We decided to contact Jim and see if he could do a presentation as seen from the Australian point of view, Jim kindly accepted the offer to give our club a talk and to include a look at some pictures of wood turning in Australia, his presentation is likely to last about an hour and we are delighted to have him here, his background in woodturning is that he was a former president of the Woodturners Association of Western Australia with a membership of around 500 members in 12 groups, he still teaches in the Wandi Group in Australia, this is his home club. Jim will be happy to receive any questions as he goes through his presentation.
The final hour of this meeting will be taken up by showing our guest some of the woodturnings and other work done by our members and allowing our guest to ask questions or to comment on our work. We would like you all to bring something you have made to show Jim what our members can do.
Here is a picture of some items made for our own showtime meetings in the past.
Hopefully there will be a whole lot more brought in by our members, let’s show Jim exactly what we can do, you can bring more than one item.
Our meeting on the 25th MAY 2023 is the 2nd competition this year organized by Nick Simpson, it’s making anything that has a multi centre or off set use of the centre, you will have only 2 weeks after this meeting to make and enter the competition. Competition details on the notice board and on the Web Site.
Tea/Coffee will be available for the normal donation of 50p and the raffles will be on sale as usual.
