This weeks meeting has been organized by John Ruickbie, John is going to take you through the art of Segmented Turning, he is going to use the equipment we have at the club where ever possible. Segmented Turning is all about accurate cutting and setting up, something I’m sure John will be emphasizing. John will be doing this as a solo presentation.
Here are a few pictures of Segmented pieces that should give you some idea of the type of thing John will be doing.
Left, this is a picture of the press John uses for clamping his pieces. Right, is the almost complete vessel ready to be parted off.
This is the type of thing that makes up some of the elements required to make a Segmented Turning, and bear in mind you may require lots of these components to make up one ring or level on a work piece.
Here is a bowl made by David Ross using the Segmented Turning method.
Left, here are a selection of tools, partly assembled pieces and books that John used to demonstrate his art of Segmented Turning. Right, A selection of finished items that John showed at a previous meeting.
We will be looking to have a good turnout and that you will enjoy seeing and learning about the art of Segmented Turning that John will be demonstrating.
Tea/coffee will be available by donation and the usual raffles will be on sale.
Do remember the earlier start time of 6-30pm.
