START TIME 6-30PM.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 28th November 2024. It’s being organized by Alan Smith and was originally set out with all 5 lathes in use, each of them doing their own thing, however due to bad weather the training session booked for the 21st November got cancelled.
Nick our training organizer contacted Alan and asked him to set aside 2 lathes for training purposes to complete the training for 2 individuals, this was agree with all concerned and we had done this in the past. So now we have the situation where Alan Smith will be overseeing 3 of the lathes whilst Nick Simpson will deal with the 2 training lathes. Each will be responsible for their own part in the meeting.
Alan has demonstrated on numerous occasions and does mainly bowl work, what he comes up with for this meeting we will all have to wait to see. However I did go back through our archives and found a few pictures of work being done by Alan, here are just a few of them.
Here we see Alan working on a Sycamore Bowl.
Left, here Alan is holding the finished the Sycamore bowl. Right, shows Alan holding up a very nice rippled Ash Bowl done at a previous meeting.
Left, sees Alan working on a very shallow plate, Centre, shows Susan Drew working on a bowl at one of Alan’s meetings. Right, also at that meeting was Geoff Potter working on a piece of Laburnum.
Our next meeting is on the 12th December, that’s the last meeting for this year and culminates in the final Competition for the MacGregor shield, let me remind you all that everyone can put in entries and yes it can be more than one item, it doesn’t matter what category you are in as long as you do enter something. The judging will be carried out by the whole membership present and anyone can win.
Do remember we are still looking for quite a few donation for the Grand Christmas Raffle Draw, at the latest estimate on the number we have about 50-60 the target is to reach 100. There is only one more meeting out with this Thursday when the donations can be delivered, the following meeting will be the draw and Competition.
This week’s meeting will have the usual meeting raffles and also the Christmas raffles will also be on sale, tea and coffee will also be available for a small donation of 50p.
