Our next meeting is on Thursday 19th September , it’s a solo presentation by Mark Sutton organized by Alan Geddes. Alan informed me that Mark’s presentation will have a Christmas theme although we have no further information on exactly what that might be.

Our latest training day was on Thursday evening 12-09-2024.
All our training days are organized by Nick Simpson our training co-ordinator.
There were 5 trainees along with 5 tutors on all our lathes, 4 of them were on their 2nd training session with 1 person on their 1st session. The training is usually split into 4 sessions, 2 with faceplate or bowl work sessions and 2 spindle or between centres turning, with the pupil doing lots of practice between sessions, it’s normal to set them free from the tuition after they have had 4 sessions. Some of them may go on to receive advanced tuition at a later date, our training also deals with very specialised turning as well as what’s considered normal.

Our meeting on Thursday 5th September was organized by Barry Cumming, Barry’s theme for the meeting was making Captive Rings on our turnings. These are usually found on turnings that are between centres, things like Babies Rattles, Goblets , Wooden Mushrooms and various other turnings.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 5th September 2024, it has been organized by Barry Cumming and Barry’s theme for this meeting is making Captive Rings. In addition to himself he will have at least 2 more turners working the lathes who will also be demonstrating the art of making captive rings.

As a result of our Open Day we have a lot of new members who have joined our club, this has resulted in our Training arranger Nick Simpson starting a new programme of training to accommodate some of the new members who require some training.

Our meeting on Thursday evening 22nd August 2024 was organized by Alec Mutch, this was a solo demonstration by myself on the theme of Off Centre or Multi Centre turning. As some of the equipment required to do this type of turning was not something that all turners would have as part of their kit I decided to do this demonstration on my own.

Report on our OPEN DAY held on the 10th August 2024.
We arranged an OPEN DAY on the 10th August 2024 to be held in the main arena of the Munlochy Village hall. The purpose of the OPEN DAY was to try to raise enough money to help purchase a Defibrillator for our club in the Hall’s basement where we meet.

Our meeting on Thursday 8th August 2024 was another of our Shield Competitions. This one was organized by Nick Simpson and the criteria for this competition was all about Wooden Vases plus, meaning that there were certain additional criteria that were to be followed.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 8th August 2024, the main part of this meeting is one of our Shield Competitions, this part is being handled by Nick Simpson. Nick’s theme for this Competition is to make Wooden Vases and Wooden Flowers, Nick will be assisted by Susan Drew and the judges will be chosen from members of the club.
