Promoting the art and craft of woodturning in the Scottish Highlands
Our meeting on Thursday evening 22nd August 2024 was organized by Alec Mutch, this was a solo demonstration by myself on the theme of Off Centre or Multi Centre turning. As some of the equipment required to do this type of turning was not something that all turners would have as part of their kit I decided to do this demonstration on my own.

Report on our OPEN DAY held on the 10th August 2024.
We arranged an OPEN DAY on the 10th August 2024 to be held in the main arena of the Munlochy Village hall. The purpose of the OPEN DAY was to try to raise enough money to help purchase a Defibrillator for our club in the Hall’s basement where we meet.

Our meeting on Thursday 8th August 2024 was another of our Shield Competitions. This one was organized by Nick Simpson and the criteria for this competition was all about Wooden Vases plus, meaning that there were certain additional criteria that were to be followed.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 8th August 2024, the main part of this meeting is one of our Shield Competitions, this part is being handled by Nick Simpson. Nick’s theme for this Competition is to make Wooden Vases and Wooden Flowers, Nick will be assisted by Susan Drew and the judges will be chosen from members of the club.

There is no meeting this week, our next meeting is on the 8th August 2024.
The next meeting is one of the Shield Competitions, the meeting is being handled by Nick Simpson and the subject matter for the competition is Wooden Vases Plus. You still have plenty time to make something to put into the competition so here are the rules for the competition, Novice Group are required to make a single Vase of any size and shape. The Intermediate Group are required to make a Vase that can hold water. The Open Group are required to make a Vase with 2 or more additional wooden flowers.

Our meeting on Thursday 18th July 2024 was another of our Showtime meetings, this one’s presenter was Nick Simpson. These meetings are for the most part very successful and although the turnout was a little disappointing it turned out to be a very enjoyable meeting.

Our meeting on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 was organized by Barry Cumming, Barry wanted to use this meeting to experiment with square or odd shaped bowls as he had not done any of these since he started woodturning. He then organized for 4 more turners to man all our lathes to demonstrate the methods used to make square or odd shaped bowls.
