Our meeting on Thursday 8th June 2023 was another of our Showtime meetings, this meeting was organized by Susan Drew with myself being compere for the evening. It was well supported as usual although the turnout of our members was a little light, possibly down to the very nice weather we are having at the time.
Most of those showing items had more than one item to talk about and to respond to questions from the floor, all of which were handled very well. We had asked for those members who had been winners in the competition that was held at our previous meeting to bring along their pieces in order to let those not present at the competition to see the winning entries with the hope that it might encourage more of our members to take part in the competitions.
Here are a few pictures of the items brought in for the meeting,
A really diverse group of exhibits, including some pyrography, marquetry and offset turnings.
Here we have some more offset work along with some penetrated work, some inlay and laminated work, we even have a little sports car.
Here we have a square bowl, a natural edged bowl, lots of offset work and an inside out turning.
That concludes the Showtime meeting entries, and a huge thank you to everyone who took part, it’s very important for this type of meeting to continue, it allows the members to see and hear about the items being made. I’m always amazed at the diversity of the items being put forward and as far as the quality is concerned it’s 2nd to none even from some of the Novice category which is a good reflection on our teaching programme.
Our next meeting will be on the 22nd June 2023, it’s going to be a solo demo by John Ruickbie on Segmented Turning using mainly the equipment we have here in the club. We will be looking to have a very good turnout so I’ll see you all there.
